Abstract
Aspiration of barium contrast medium occasionally occurs during radiological examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract. Although aspiration of small amounts of orally administered barium sulfate suspension is usually not harmful, aspiration
of
large amounts may cause pneumonitis or nodular granulomas of interstitial lung tissues and lymph nodes, asphyxiation and death.
Here we report 30-month follow up of a 10-day-old infant following a massive aspiration of barium contrast medium during the investigation of vomiting.
